4 Number the events in the correct order.
The children work individually to order the events

chronologically, using the text to help them. They may 
find it helpful to write the appropriate year next to each 
sentence (where a date isn’t given), then use these to help 
them do the ordering. (The text gives years for most of the 
events mentioned.)
Let them check their answers in pairs, then check them 
• 
as a class by asking the children to read out the events 
in order. Ask them to say the year for each event where 
appropriate, making sure they read the years correctly 
(e.g. 
fifteen ninety-five
).
