Some people believe that studying at university or college is the best route to a successful career, while others believe that it is better to get a job straight after school.

Nobody would dispute the fact that one of the most controversial topics of current never-ending debate is whether being involved in a particular job after finishing school is the path to successful career, or continuing studies further at university or college would be more fruitful. While it is widely accepted that getting a job straight after school is the best choice in order to have a bright future career, there are several opponents of this point of view. It is my opinion that acquiring tertiary education would be more beneficial.

On the one hand, people can become more independent if they have their own career. In other words, while studying at university or college requires tuition fees, by receiving a job offer individuals will be able to make a living, afford whatever they desire and provide themselves with sufficient living condition. Moreover, young people who decide to be employed in a certain job rather than continue their education are likely to progress more quickly. They will have an opportunity to gain life experience and learn practical skills related to their chosen profession which, in order, may lead to promotions and a successful career. As a matter of fact, working with others and interacting with people from all social background, youngsters can enhance their abilities of problem solving, communication and teamwork.

On the other hand, I support the people who would argue that continuing studies at higher academic institutes is more beneficial. There is no point in denying the fact that in this contemporary world, specific qualifications related to the field tend to be the pre-requisite for the majority of well-paid occupations. For instance, without having the relevant degree and skills, it is almost impossible to become a doctor, teacher, lawyer, to mention but a few. As a result, university graduates have access to more and better job opportunities, and they tend to earn more lucrative salaries compared to those with fewer qualifications. Furthermore, the job market is becoming increasingly competitive, and sometimes there are hundreds of applicants for one position in a company. Youth who lack qualifications and degree from university or college are less likely to be able to compete.

In light of above-mentioned facts, one can reach a conclusion that students can learn imperative skills for their career by gaining a particular job instead of high education; however they have to face with some difficulties in competing for a position in a company in this competitive world. Thus it is highly recommended to students to continue their studies beyond school level so as to be successful in their careers.
