Thanks to the advancements made in the medical field, people’s life expectancy has increased in recent years, so there are many senior citizens over the globe these days. Some people hold that societies might benefit from those individuals. While this view can be true to some extent, I overall feel that aged populations have some detriment to the communities.

Clearly, the elderly might be of great significance for the society. The major factor for this seems to be their abundant experience. By having such a trait, they can form an appropriate code in youngsters, as older individuals appear to realize what a decent conduct is. This can be very beneficial, especially in today’s world where teenagers are getting accustomed to misbehaving. Ultimately, this can reduce some problems associated with the youth, such as juvenile delinquency. Additionally, aged people can help boost the companies’ success, if they work. Were their traditional and proven methods to be utilized in today’s job market, in combination with the contemporary ones, this might lead to having a buoyant economy and powerful society.

Nonetheless, society may also face a glass ceiling when there are many aged people. Obviously, older people tend to seek affection and care virtually all the time, as they might be weak both physically and mentally. However, these days, it seems impossible since both of the parents are becoming breadwinners of their family, often having a nine-to-five jobs to make ends meet, so older people might be obliged to go to nursery homes. Not only can this harm the family bonds, but also this phenomenon might be a financial burden on the governments. This is because, they will have to allocate extra funds on caring for the elderly.

In conclusion, it might be true that the elderly come in handy for the society in several ways. However, damaged family relations and reduced government budget are the main factors why I still maintain that aged populations can be rather deleterious.
