Libya has been in a long civil war for the best part of a decade, following the toppling of former Libyan dictator Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. Turkey, for instance, has been sending mercenaries and weapons daily to the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA). The motives for Turkish interference in Libya are unclear, although experts have suggested that it may be a move to secure the country’s rich hydrocarbon assets.
