participants are disadvantaged by the intervention assigned to their group?
Limited resources and limited time could potentially have an important impact on the
quality and the duration of the project too. The situation is however not unique to the
context of this project. This makes it that much more crucial to conduct the research in
an effective and valid manner in order to establish guidelines for researchers who find
themselves in the same situation (cf replication challenge). It is the hope of the
researchers that this project will contribute to establishing guidelines for the
methodology of CALL research in settings that are less than ideal.
Moreover, the researchers feel confident of being able to cope with the epistemological
challenge of psychology, as far as acceptance and self-efficacy are concerned.
“Empowering” students through CALL to overcome oral language anxiety is even a key
motivator behind the project’s pedagogical design. This design, finally, also takes into
account Colpaert’s (2013) call for smart design, with personalization of the
learning
process, and teacher and peer feedback to the benefit of students’ oral proficiency.
