Notes on Kirkland Practice Fields

These notes address the most common questions and concerns about field conditions in Kirkland. They are meant to provide coaches with information to compare the available field choices. But conditions do change, so it’s best to check out the field yourself before registering for practice slots.

BEST High School West	Flat	Relatively new grass in good condition	Map on website shows the BEST fields before the grass was established.
BEST High School East	Flat	Relatively new grass in good condition	Map on website shows the BEST fields before the grass was established. Backstop and infield makes the useable field area smaller. For younger players only.
International Community School Field #1	Mild cross-field slope	Grass	Hill to the east limits field size. For younger players only. Next to covered play shed.
International Community School Field #2	Moderate cross-field slope	Uneven Grass	Cinder track borders field.
Spinney Homestead Park (North & Central)	Mild along-field slope.	Somewhat uneven grass; west end often very wet; surface sometimes badly torn up.	Steep hill to the west limits field size but is good for training. Dog waste sometimes a problem.
Spinney Homestead Park (South)	Mild along-field slope.	Somewhat uneven grass; west end often very wet; surface sometimes badly torn up.	Baseball backstop and in-field limits field size. Steep hill to the west limits field size but is good for training. Dog waste sometimes a problem.
Spinney Homestead Park (West)	Fairly flat	Somewhat uneven grass.	Small field for younger players only squeezed in between baseball backstops along the edge of this complex. Asphalt path to the east limits field size. Dog waste sometimes a problem.
Terrace Park (North)	Fairly flat	Grass somewhat uneven and long.	Basketball court, playground, sidewalk and trees limit field size on the north, west and east sides. Small field for younger players only. Dog waste often a problem.
Terrace Park (South)	Moderate field slope.	Grass somewhat uneven and long.	Large soccer goals may be present and available for use. Dog waste often a problem.
Peter Kirk Field 1 (West)	Fairly flat	Grass somewhat uneven; very wet in parts.	Smaller field for younger players only.
Peter Kirk Field 2 (East)	Flat	Dirt Field	A large all-dirt field with backstop.
Mark Twain Field 1 (North & South)	Flat	Dirt Field	One large goal may be available for each half of the field.
Lakeview (West & East)	Flat	Dirt Field	Chain-link fence surrounds field area. West field smaller and so is designated for younger players only.
KJH Softball Outfields (1 & 2)	Flat	Grass	By contract, LWYSA teams may not begin practice before 6 p.m. and fields are reserved for U7-U9 players only. Stay off infield areas.
KJH Football Field (West & East)	Flat	Grass somewhat uneven	By contract, LWYSA teams may not begin practice before 6 p.m. Filed size constrained by track.
Highlands	Flat area is relatively small	Grass	Not designed as a playing field; just the grassy part of a neighborhood park. For younger players only.
