ADOPTED THREE YEARS AFTER THE CREATION OF NATO, IT HAS BEEN THE FLAG OF NATO SINCE OCTOBER 14, 1953. THE BLUE COLOR SYMBOLIZES THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, WHILE THE CIRCLE STANDS FOR UNITY.
