Eurostat 
Eurostat is a leading provider of statistics on Europe. It provides statistics on a wide range of areas, 
including finance and banking.
All of the data that was relevant for this project could be found in the “Economy and finance” 
section. The information that was available is summarised below. It is generally available from 
1980 onwards and the data can be separated at sector level. The sectors of interest for this project 
were S122 “Other monetary financial institutions”; S123 “Other financial intermediaries, except 
insurance corporations and pension funds”; and S125 “Insurance corporations and pension funds”. 
All of the information provided by Eurostat that was relevant for our project could be found under 
“Financial flows and stocks (nasa_f)”, which was within “Annual sector account (nasa)”, which was 
itself within the category “National accounts (including GDP) (na)”.
