If you want to find true love, then what you ought to do right now is just give up
looking for it. I mean it—just give up right now. You will never find it.
You won’t have to because if you’re a real loser, true love will find you.
In case you haven’t heard, opposites attract. It doesn’t matter if it’s magnetic
fields or electrical currents or two people in love—opposites attract. So, if you
have a winning personality, chances are you’re probably dating a bunch of
losers. And if you’re a real loser, then you’ve probably been calling my daughter
for a date. If she says yes, don’t let it go to your head. The only reason she’ll go
out with you is because she has all the issues that go along with being a winner.
She simply can’t resist a challenge.
Winners have a bad habit of accepting challenges and expecting a return from
their efforts, kind of like yelling into a canyon and waiting for an echo. And if
you’re a winner dead set on dating losers, you already know how it feels to be
heartbroken standing alone on the edge of a canyon waiting for an echo you’ll
never hear.

But losers need love, too. So they give nothing, expect nothing, offer nothing,
and always end up with the perfect opposite of that. Sounds too good to be true,
doesn’t it? Well that’s how true love is supposed to feel.
Still, it’s only half the battle. Finding love—once you know how—is the easy
part. Finding someone who will remain completely devoted to you while you
pursue all the things you enjoy doing is the tricky part. You want to make sure
they won’t start changing on you, or worse, expect you to change. Marriage is a
big step, so here are a few things to consider to find out if you’re doing the right
thing.
First, if you only say “I do” for the money, you could wind up not working and
spending the rest of your life partying. We’re talking every day for the rest of
your life. Not working—doing exactly what you want, when you want.
Naturally, that would be totally awesome. I was just making sure you knew.
Second, see if you can listen to your mate a good two to three minutes before
cutting him or her off and complaining about the difficulties of your day. If she
or he doesn’t mind you doing that, you’ve got yourself a keeper. And finally,
marriage has one thing that gives you the ability to see yourself and the changes
you need to make to live your life more fully, more abundantly, and more
productively. That thing is called a mother-in-law. And she will be a blessing in
your home every day—no matter what state she lives in.
If you’re already so in love, so happy, and so lucky to have found your perfect
soul mate, then I’m sorry, I can’t help you. But if you’re a lovable loser, I mean
an absolute lying, mistreating, unemployed miscreant who doesn’t care about
anybody but himself, don’t worry about a thing. If my daughter doesn’t come to
your rescue, somebody else’s will.
