Nuclear Medicine Technology is the medical
speciality concerned with the use of small amounts of
radioactive material for the diagnosis of various
diseases and treatment of a few diseases. Nuclear
Medicine scans reveal biological processes that take
place at cellular and subcellular level and are now
accepted as an integral part of molecular imaging.
Theranostics is also an integral part of this field,
wherein the same tracer can be used for both
diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Technologists apply the art and skill of diagnostic
imaging and treatment through safe and effective use
of radionuclides.
This course will
1. Help in acquiring adequate knowledge and
technical skills for the use of sophisticated
instrumentation such as gamma cameras, thyroid
uptake probes, PET scanner, cyclotron, dedicated
software to generate digital images, and preparation
of radio pharmaceuticals, as applied to patient care
2. Enrich their knowledge of medical physics,
molecular imaging and theranostics.
3. Develop research activities on newer radio
pharmaceuticals related to SPECT-CT, PET-CT and
Cyclotron.
4. Acquire knowledge about functioning principles
and layout of Cyclotron, which is used in the
production of several useful medical radio
pharmaceuticals
5. Develop a compassionate approach towards the
needs of patients.
Students participate in the daily operation of the
Nuclear Medicine department under the supervision
of Radiation Safety Officer and Nuclear Medicine
physicians. The course also includes maintaining
patient records and documents regarding the amount
and type of radio-nuclides that is received, used and
discarded. When preparing radio pharmaceuticals,
technologists adhere to safety standards that keep the
chance of radiation exposure as low as possible to
staff and patients.
Master of Science (Bioethics)
Bioethics has become an integral part of medical
education, training, services and research. Research
ethics has become increasingly important with India
being a hub for clinical research. Newer technology in
medicine has introduced new moral questions for
debate. The advent of increasing privatization and
corporatization of medical care has introduced new
dilemmas in ethics. The medical professional of
tomorrow will need to be equipped with a itudes
and skills to deal with this challenging environment.
The quantum of teaching in ethics in the current
medical undergraduate and post-graduate training is
grossly inadequate for meeting these challenges.
There is therefore the need to create a band of
professionals who can enhance the quality of
education and research in bioethics. Currently the
courses which are offered are few.
Objective of the Course
The objective of M.Sc. Bio-Ethics Program is to
promote knowledge in Bioethics. The Programme
aims to train medical, nursing and allied health
professionals so as to equip them with knowledge
and skills to:
a. analyze cases in a clinical environment.
b. be a competent IRB member.
c. be an efficient teacher of Bio Ethics.
d. conduct research on the Bio ethics
Examinations
The duration of the M.Sc. (Bioethics) course is two
years and the students should complete the course in
4 years, failing which he/she will be discharged from
the course. There shall be two examinations, one at
the end of year 1 and the other at the end of the year 2.
A candidate will be permi ed to appear in year 2
examinations, only if he/she passes the year 1 subjects.
A Dissertation must be submi ed by the candidate
three months before the final and second year
examinations.
