Istanbul has a rich history of architecture. It has been home to many different civilizations for hundreds of years. For instance, you can see historical buildings from the Byzantine era and Ottoman era, and they all reflect different architectural styles.
I believe the historical buildings of Istanbul complement the climate of the city. For instance, the Ottomans used huge stone bricks to construct their monumental buildings. In this way, they achieved a natural way of preserving energy inside the buildings.
However, it is hard to say that for our current architecture. I live in a very green area with small parks and gardens. But the quality of the buildings is very low in terms of living. For example, my building is around 40 years old, and there is no thermal insulation. Therefore, I need to leave the radiators open all the time during winter so I can get warm at my home. That causes two things: first, I have to pay a lot for the bills, and second, it is not environmentally friendly to use non-renewable sources.
I think new buildings should be designed and constructed according to the environmental conditions of their locations. Also, they need to adopt new construction technology to save energy. This way, we can live in better quality places and not waste non-renewable energy sources.
