My Hobby is Stamp Collecting
A hobby is an interesting means to spend leisure time. It is an occupation that gives pleasure and amusement to a person and which carries one of his own accords simply because he likes it. My hobby is not pursued as a profit. The main purpose of a hobby is to derive pleasure out of it. It is meant for our mental peace and satisfaction. A hobby should be pursued according to one’s nature of work and aptitude.
Stamp collecting is my favorite hobby. I like it because it gives me pleasure and a sense of direction. I have made a big collection of stamps. To me, a stamp is not a piece of paper merely, it is rather very much a record of history. I collect many old and new stamps from different countries. A stamp tells me of the time, place and country of its origin. They are of different shapes and sizes. Every stamp is a work of art. It started when my father gave me one of his albums of stamps a few years ago, which he gathered I have added two more to it. My father also has a brilliant collection of stamps. Now I have three albums of stamps, one which is given to me by my father and two more which I have made myself. I look after my album very much and I enjoy the beauty of these attractive stamps. Stamps are a treasure because if and when a stamp goes out of circulation, it gains in value. I love to see them off and on.
Stamps are silent but they have a language that is universal. Stamps’ collecting is a very popular hobby among masses. It is not that much expensive that one cannot afford it. Stamps can be purchased easily. Nearly every city has a professional stamp dealer, many departments and variety stores maintain sections devoted to the needs of collectors. But a person can build a collection without the expense. I come to know about the history, geography, culture, and currency of a country from its stamps. My friends and family encourage me to pursue my hobby as a profession but I think a hobby should be a hobby and professionally one should go for another thing. I am proud of myself to be in love with this hobby.
