Computer
Today's world is often called the computer world, and it really is. A computer is an electronic device that can execute a set of instructions. It is difficult to imagine the modern world of high technologies without computers. It is also the fastest growing industry in the world today. Fifty years ago, people had no idea what computers were or what they could do. Today, people cannot imagine a day without them. While the first computer was about the size of a minivan, modern devices can fit in the palm of your hand. But the computer revolution is still ongoing.
The first computers were developed during World War II to break codes or send classified information. They were also used to calculate the first atomic bomb. Today they are used for storing data, processing banking transactions, managing government files, keeping statistics, and more. It turns out that all computers can do is calculate. They turn numbers into pictures, words and sounds. The Japanese have already created a device that responds to human language. Computers have ushered in a new era in many areas of life, especially in production and communication systems.
The word "computer" was first used in 1613 in a book written by an English writer. It referred to the person who made the calculations. Soon, Blaise Pascal invented the first mechanical calculator. However, Charles Babbage is considered to be the real father of the first recognized computer. In the first half of the 19th century, he created a fully programmable mechanical device. More sophisticated analog computers emerged in the 20th century. The first functional computer was called the Z1 and was created by Konrad Zuse.
Almost everything in the world today is done with the help of a computer. No human on earth can add 500,000 sums in one second, while computers can. They have much more memory and quick reactions. Computers have expanded the power of the human mind and allowed it to cross existing barriers. Today, many areas of science depend on this device. For example, medicine practically cannot do without computers. Over the past 50 years, all medical information, discoveries and data have been stored there. In addition, computers play an important role in diagnosis and treatment.
Although there are two types of computers, analog and digital, only the digital type is widely used in various fields. Digital computers perform a number of operations at incredible speed. For example, they can process 2000 million disparate operations per second. More advanced computers process over a billion revolutions per second. Several generations of digital computers and processors have already been invented.
Computer science is studied even in modern schools. This subject is called IT (Information Technology). Children in high school learn to use computers and store basic information. In addition to using computers for IT lessons, schools need these devices for testing and exams.
