Module: Writing. Topic : News report. Lesson: Planning a news report. Times: 80 minutes. Materials: succsessful writing. Aims: to increase students’ ability to describe event or topic to improve their writing skills. Warm up: 15 mins. Procedure: Generate interest by asking students to think about a typical newspaper and the types of articles they are aware of. Then ask them general questions. For example: Which newspaper do you like to read? Why do we need to read news report ? Do you like to read news report? ~Introduse the structure and give students some information about new reports.
Activity 1 Listening task. Objective; To improve knowledge and also their listening skills. Time: 15 minutes. Materials: Tape recorder, handout 1. Procedure: Firstly distribute the worksheets to students then give them instruction they should fill in the missing information while listening to the cassette.
Suggested answer: 1 morning. 7fire. 2 hundred. 8 man. 3 third. 9 the. 4 hotel. 10 cigarrette. 5 lots of. 11 into. 6 using. 12 like.
Activity 2 Matching the news reports Objective; To increase their ability match and distinguish news reports and stories. Time: 20 minutes. Materials: Handout 2. Procedure: Give them handouts they should match beginnings with endings then reports and which to stories and also thay should justify their answers.
Suggested answer: 1 B- news report. 2 C- news report. 3 A- story.
Activity 3 Writing a small news report. Objective; To help students write their own news report . Time: 25 minutes. Materials: Papers. Procedure: Ask students to write a news report choosing one topic in their news reports they should do the followings: Giving headline, intro, main body and conclusion. ~Giving all neccessary information accuratly. ~Using passive voise and direct reported speech to include people’s comments.
