26.  The Industry of Great Britain.
G reat  Britain  is  one  the  m ost  im portant  industrial  coutries  in the  w orld.  O ne  o f  
the  extensive  industries  o f   G reat  B ritain  is  the  textile  industry.  L arge  quantities  o f  
textiles  are  produced  and  exported.  T extile  exported  from   G reat  B ritain  are  to  be 
fond  in  all  parts  o f  rhe  w orld.  G reat  Britain  is  also  noted  for  coal,  for  iron  and  steel 
g oods  and  supplies  m any  countries  w ith  m achinery.  A nother  leading  industry  in 
G reat  B ritain  is  ship  -   building  and  the  m otor  industiy  is  highly  developed.  G reat 
B ritain  becam e  the  leading  shipbuilder  in  the  w orld  long  ago.  The  biggest  industrial 
centres  are  Sheffield,  B irm ingham ,  M anchester,  G lasgow ,  L ondon,  Liverpool  and 
the  others.  E ngland  is  a  capitalist country.  All  pow er  is  in  the  hands  o f  capitalist and 
landlords.  T he  land,  the  m iners,  the  factories  and  banks  are belong to them .
L ondon  is th e capital  o f  E ngland  from   the  1 Ith  century.  F rom  the  1707  it  is capital  o f  
G reat  B ritain.  L o n d o n 's  people  do  business.  T here  are  four  parts  o f  L ondon.  They 
are:  T he C ity, T he  W est  End,  The  East End and  W estm inster.

L o n d o n ’s  underground  is  the o ldest  in  the w orld.  T he  first  line o pened  in  1870.  There
