§ 1. Classification of methods of interpretation.

The specifics of the interpretation of legal norms require the use of special procedures, technologies, and techniques in this process. The methods of interpretation are understood as a set of means used to establish the content of the norms of law.

Depending on the means of interpretation, the following ways of interpreting the norms of law are distinguished: grammatical (philological, linguistic), systematic, historical-political, logical, teleological, and functional.

Interpretation is the process of obtaining reliable knowledge about the content of a rule of law. Legal norms as certain thoughts of the legislator, first of all, exist in the language form. Hence, to understand the meaning of the norm, it is inevitable to use grammatical interpretation. The norms of law regulate social relations not in isolation, but in interaction with other norms. Thus, the meaning of a rule of law can be learned through knowledge of legal systems, i.e. through systematic interpretation. The norms of law have a certain origin, their publication is conditioned by social factors. Knowledge of these factors can be used in the process of understanding the meaning of the rule of law, i.e. it is necessary to use a historical interpretation. The norms of law, finally, are created for a certain functioning, for the regulation of public relations. Knowledge of how the rules of law operate, how they are applied, and how they are understood by the subjects of law can also help in understanding their meaning. Hence the need for a functional interpretation. Knowledge about the forms of manifestation of the norms of law is used by the interpreter on the basis of the rules and laws of logic. In the process of interpretation, the interpreter operates with the material of the rule of law using logical techniques that are not covered by any of these methods. Therefore, the set of such techniques is called the logical way. There are also teleological (target ) interpretation. Thus, in legal science and practice, the following methods of interpretation are distinguished: grammatical, systematic, logical, historical-political, systematic, teleological and functional.
