The chart provides data on regular physical activity engagement rates among Australian men and women across six age 
categories in 2010.
With the exception of the youngest age group, more women tended to take part in physical activity as compared to men 
in this year.
The amount of activity undertaken by women generally increased with age. There was, however, a slight drop in these 
figures when reaching the oldest age category. In the 15-24 age group, 47.7% of women took part in activity. This figure 
rose with each age category and peaked at 53.3% between the ages of 45 to 64. As women entered retirement, the rates 
of activity fell quite significantly back to the same level (47.1%) as the youngest age group.
Men, by contrast, experienced a quite different trend. Activity rates started high at 52.8% but, as they reached the age of 
35, they generally did less exercise than their younger counterparts with only 39.5% uptake. This situation changed after 
the age of 44 as activity rates started to increase. By the age of 65, activity rates had increased to 46.7%, almost the same 
rate as women.
