6.5.1 Antiamoebic and antigiardiasis medicines

diloxanide a  

Tablet: 500 mg (furoate).

Oral liquid: 200 mg (as benzoate)/5 ml. 

Tablet: 200 mg to 500 mg. 

6.5.2 Antileishmaniasis medicines

amphotericin B 

Powder for injection: 50 mg in vial (as sodium 

deoxycholate or liposomal complex). 

miltefosine 

Solid oral dosage form: 10 mg; 50 mg. 

paromomycin

 

Solution for intramuscular injection: 750 mg of 

paromomycin base (as the sulfate). 

sodium stibogluconate or meglumine antimoniate 

Injection: 100 mg/ml, 1 vial = 30 ml or 30%, 

equivalent to approximately 8.1% antimony 

(pentavalent) in 5‐ml ampoule.  

6.5.3 Antimalarial medicines 

6.5.3.1 For curative treatment 

Medicines  for  the  treatment  of  P.  falciparum  malaria  cases  should  be  used  in  combination.    The  list 

currently recommends combinations according to treatment guidelines.  WHO recognizes that not all of 

the FDCs in the WHO treatment guidelines exist, and encourages their development and rigorous testing.  

WHO also encourages development and testing of rectal dosage formulations.
