It’s hard to decide what career following when you leave school or university, 

unless you have a            interest or a passion for something. Doug Allen, who is a 

_  wildlife  and  documentary  cameraman,  has  always  had  a  passion  for  filming 

underwater,  all  over  the  world.  He  is  born  in  Scotland  in  1951  and  studied 

_  biology  at  university.  After  he  graduated,  he  spent  some  years  doing  different 

diving jobs around the world. Then, in 1976, he went to the Antarctic to work as a 

research diver. There, he helped scientists carry out underwater studies beneath the 

ice.  His  career  took  a  new  direction  in  1987  when  he  travelled  to  the  Antarctic  to 

film the award-winning documentary films The Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Life. 

Doug had  made other films since then, including films in the Andes, in the deserts 

of Africa and on Mount Everest. Apart from filming, he has written  many articles 

for  magazines  and  even  some  children's  books.  So,  what  qualities  can  help  you
