Popular Professions within the Hospitality Industry
According to the research findings, presented in
Table 3
, the most popular hospitality professions are hotel
manager, barman, chef, cruise ship manager, and pastry chef. It is important to note that managerial level positions
are much more popular than entry or skilled level positions although our research findings suggest that students’
willingness to supervise others is moderate. That makes us wonder whether secondary school students are aware of
what management entails. It seems that they want to pursue managerial level positions, but they do not want the
responsibility of managing people. A possible explanation revolves around the amount of monetary rewards, since
on average managerial level positions earn more money than the others.
