THE ROLE OF GLOBALIZATION ON LANGUAGE AND EFL TEACHING

Annotation:
This article aimed at to consider alternation in the world system of language, as
a consequence of the English language transformation into the global language. This paper
emphasizes the most significant features of EFL, means of intercultural communication. Therefore,
it is regarded to state a view of transition to multilingual teaching in which English is considered as
the language of worldwide communication.

What is the globalization in language?
Globalization is undoubtedly being one of the major defining characteristics of innovative
lifestyle. Understanding globalizing may not seem difficult according to following definition:
“Globalization is in a modern world to image relevant trends to be sensationally and
relentlessly increasing relations and communications among people despite of nationality or
continent’.[Tobin, 1999]186
The ongoing process of globalization is one of the buzzwords which have made an impact on
the different faces of life of concurrent world. In the humanity communication of the globalized
world, there should be a common language of intercommunication which may make it possible to
handle intercultural challenges standing in the way of integrating nations
into a collaborative
economic and cultural area. Talking about important duty of a common language used in the
process of globalization. There is a need for introducing the term lingua franca which is appropriate
when the focus of interest is on familiar factor of communication. The lingua franca which is often
capitalized, is a common language consulting of Italian mixed with French, Spanish, Greek and
Arabic, was formerly utilized in Mediterranean areas187. According to Crystal (1998, 2006)188,
language which is considered as true “global language” has to possess three peculiarities: that it
should be spoken as the native language in some countries, that it has been official language , and it
is accepted priority in language teaching around the world. As well as English meets all of these
criteria. Consequently, the growth of English as a lingua franca is that non-native speakers utilizing
English as the common language in international business. As a lingua franca, English has become
the fastest accelerating language in the contemporary life together with by integrating the East and
the West and the North and the South. It engages the status
of a commercial language, not only
business, almost every filed such as science, engineering and technology, medicine,
scientific
research, education, tourism, internet banking, advertising, film industry, transportation, pharmacy.
In the forgoing discussion it has been drawn attention to a set of
notions toward effects of
globalization on English and its teaching in Asia. Occasionally, globalization has been
interconnected to internationalization. One of the feasible reason of internationalization is
performance of foreign languages study programs in schools. Yet, non-native language agenda
displays that as the preeminent non-native language English is being
taught at universities
worldwide189. As an example of evidence a special emphasis has been placed on English in Asian
countries. Asia has the largest population of English learners inhabit in the world. In current time, in
Asia English is the first “foreign language” in school curriculum and has been very important
subject in beginner erudition courses. In Uzbekistan for instance, it should be noted that one of the
major goals and changes by the Ministry of Education for EFL teaching to establish, since recent

years English beginner courses have been established for children in pre-school curriculum and
designate English as an officially evaluated subject for grades from 1 to 4 and increase the level of
EFL teaching in Uzbekistan. Under the new guidelines of the Ministry of Education,
raising
communicative ability is the current aim of foreign language education from elementary to high
school level. Further, English has been increasingly used as immediate mode of coaching in higher
education. In conformity with new decrees on education by 2021 to substantiate intensive study
courses for EFL studiers, to nominate functional opportunities such as “exchanging programs” with
native English speaking countries for EFL students and implement great degrees in EFL teaching to
dispense studiers and teachers with advance of salary.
Moreover, as the primary mode of instruction English has been progressively used in higher
education. Advisement needs to be given to the improvement of English language accomplishment
in Asia while having the ability to communicate is integral to attainment as more lands engross in
affairs and commerce. As a consequence, as the requisite for English fluency rises advisement
needs to be given to radically new methods of English teaching. Wherefore
both the situation in
Asia and the spread of English being accelerated by language in education programs and measures,
politico-economic necessity, global intercommunicating and public apprehension of English.
To conclude, in a society where globalization will endure to judge how languages are
interacting. In regard to the standpoints of English plays in teaching project the outgrowth of the
study dispenses a foundation of qualified information. Oncoming research will determine a more
functional understanding in this area of study and will inspire educators and other professionals to
apprehend cultural difference among languages.
