A challenge to the academic staff in connection with ensuring the quality of the educational process
Dynamics in the development of science and education places demands on both universities and their academic staff. In response to new needs, the legislation had to introduce up-to-date legal norms that guarantee and ensure the quality of the holistic process. Universities gradually transformed their role and became more actively involved in the process of interaction: education - research - business. In this regard, Bulgaria'sgoals in the framework of the Europe 2020 Strategy are decisive. These goals influence and predetermine the innovative system of higher education, in which human capital represented by members of the academic staff is the basis for

expected results expressed in publication, patent and innovation activities. The academic staff of higher education institutions in the Republic of Bulgaria performs both teaching and research work, and this makes it necessary to define specific indicators, the purpose of which is to correctly balance these two main areas. On the one hand, this is a requirement for a high-quality educational process, which ensures a high level of trained personnel, and on the other hand,
creation of new knowledge. In this complex symbiosis, Bulgarian higher education faces several main challenges:
Ensuring the quality of educational services comparable to European requirements and business needs.
The academic staff, placed in the new conditions of change in
social reality, and associated with the new requirements of regulatory documents.
Insufficiently good material conditions and funding of higher education institutions,
guaranteeing a high level of research activities.
Active participation of learners in the holistic process of education and the inclusion of the results of research activities in the taught material.
Lack of stable traditions of collaboration between Bulgarian scientists and international colleagues and business representatives.
Subjects of higher education are subject to new requirements dictated by global changes in the global and European economic space. Based on traditional teaching methods in Bulgarian higher education institutions, members of the academic staff must transform their lecture activities and move to a team form of education in which
interact: student - teacher - representative of the practice. The time has come for members of the academic staff to move out of their limited and isolated role as independent lecturers and researchers and turn to teamwork. These obligations and needs to the academic staff are a function of the demands placed on Bulgarian universities. The academic staff needs to abandon their role as independent and isolated in the previous stages of Bulgarian higher education in order to bring their activities into line with the new realities and successfully join the European and world network of knowledge and learning.
In this regard, Bulgaria is still at one of the initial stages of modern development in the field of higher education. Our country should learn from the experience of Western countries and transfer sound good methods to education. Bulgaria needs to direct the educational process in a new direction of active multi-layered cooperation between universities and business structures, as well as create motivational mechanisms for achieving uncompromising quality in every field of higher education through periodic and objective evaluation of this activity, based on clear and transparent rules and procedures (Mateeva , 2011: 527). constantly updated requirements and needs, directly indicated by business representatives, high-quality Bulgarian higher education institutions will be able to adapt in a timely manner both the educational services they offer,
and offer a high level of science. For Bulgarian universities, for the most part, these are innovative and still not well known forms of interaction, which have yet to establish themselves and use alternative forms of education.
