The photographs of the My Lai massacre of dead women, children, babies, and el-
derly Vietnamese were taken by the Army photographer assigned to Charlie Company, 
Ronald Haeberle, using his private camera, on March 16, 1 9 6 8 . He recorded no such 
atrocities on his second official Army camera. His photos exposed the military cover-up al-
leging that those killed were insurgents rather than innocent, unarmed civilians murdered
