UNIT 4.1: Visual Indicators for Assessing Logistics Efficiency

Unit Objectives
At the end of this unit, one will be able to:
1.
Explain the visual indicators of logistics efficiency.
4.1.1 - Visual Indicators of Logistics Efficiency
In logistics, by mere observation of any factory gate and the trucks waiting to enter in or go out, one
can tell how efficiently the logistics in the company functions. One would expect to see a smooth flow
of trucks both in and out, without a massive queue.
The average queue length & the average time taken for entry and exit of trucks which come into a
plant for loading and after loading the time taken for exiting are important parameters for
understanding how efficiently the logistics process operates.
Further, if there is not enough consolidation, then the number of vehicles entering a plant is quite
high, which leads to safety issues. This is primarily due to the fact the vehicles seldom follow the rules
regarding the speed limit within the factory.
