Unit 2: Writing Exercise 10
WRITING TASK 1
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
The map shows the centre of Paris. A company wants to open a new
restaurant in the area. The map shows two possible locations for the
restaurant.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and
make comparisons where relevant.
Write at least 150 words.
This model answer has been prepared by an examiner as a very good answer.
However, please note that this is just one answer out of many possible
approaches.
The map shows two possible positions for a new restaurant in central Paris.
Location 1 is on the Right Bank of the River Seine, west of the Maritime
Museum and a park. This location is east of Bir-Hakeim Bridge and opposite a
sports centre, which is on the Left Bank. Location 1 would be good for the
10,000 tourists who visit the Maritime Museum and the Aquarium every day. It
would also offer views of the river and nearby park, which may prove popular
with visitors.
Location 2 is on the Left Bank between the Eiffel Tower and an art gallery. This
location is near Lena Bridge and is also near a park. One benefit of opening the
restaurant here is that the attractions on the Left Bank receive more than
17,000 visitors each day. These visitors could eat lunch at the restaurant and
then climb the Eiffel Tower to see the view of Paris. Alternatively, they could
visit the sports centre or art gallery and then eat dinner there. Furthermore,
visitors to a restaurant here would have great views of the Eiffel Tower while
they eat.
