   What are liquid crystals used for?
   

By far the most important application of liquid crystals is display devices. Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are used in watches, calculators, and laptop computer screens, and for instrumentation in cars, ships, and airplanes.

   What are liquid crystals examples?
   

For example, many proteins and cell membranes are liquid crystals. Other well-known examples of liquid crystals are solutions of soap and various related detergents, as well as the tobacco mosaic virus, and some clays.

   How many types of liquid crystals are there?
   

There are three main types, or what is scientifically known as mesophases, of liquid crystals which can be identified by their varying amounts of molecular order and positioning. This arrangement of molecules is what makes the substance either more solid or liquid.

   Where are liquid crystals found?
   

In nature, liquid crystals aren’t only found in plants, most carbon compounds contain liquid crystals. They are found in the shells of beetles, DNA molecules, human bone, wood cellulose and even slug slime.

   Are liquid crystals toxic?
   

Liquid crystals are basically carboxylate molecules (otherwise found in soap) surrounding mostly non-toxic metal ions-you’ll be fine. Just wash your hands with soad and water and you’ll be fine.
