Topic: Digital switching system 5ESS.

One of the unique characteristics of 5ESS is its distributed architecture, which allows capacity to be increased simply by adding modules that can be dedicated to individual services (eg long distance or data). Remote switching modules can be located up to 1000km from the main switch, which facilitates the installation of telephones in new regions. The station supports any expansion strategy without limiting the operator in choosing new services. Switching 5ESS systemconsists of three main types of modules: SM (SWICHIND module)-switching module; SM (Communicationmodule) - connected module; AM (administrative module) is an administrative module. Each module performs its assigned functions that ensure the overall functioning of the 5ESS switching system. All external subscriber and trunk lines and special service circuits are connected to the switching module, analog and digital signals are converted to the digital format used inside the 5ESS type exchanges. SM modulefulfills almost 95% call handling and technicalservices, including: 1) Scansubscriber and connecting lines, 2) Generationtones and frequencies. 3) Switchingchannels. 4) Switchingpackages. 5) Notifications. 6) Controlcall passing. 7) Accessto maintenance for personnel. 8) Regulatorymaintenance and automatic maintenance Module SMprovidessubscriptionfunctions: 1) Challengeexpectations 2) Abbreviatedkit. 3) Redirectcalls like CAIE DIVERSION. 4) Conference call. One 5 ESS can support up to 192 SMs. Eachthe SM module can serve up to 5120 subscriber or trunk lines, or a combination of both. There are several typesSM modules: one)LSM (Locals witchind module) - Serves local subscriber lines, trunks and ISDN users. 2)NSM(Nost switchigd module) - central switching module - serves ordinary subscriber interfacesLSM, and also provides connections for one or more RSMs (Remote Switching Modules) 3)RSM (Remote Switching Module) - serves to meet the needs of those remote communities that are too small to be served by a separate 5ESS station. This is done by connecting the RSM to the HSM. The RSM module can be removed up to a maximum of 242 km from the central stations. RSM can operate completely autonomously, including servicing trunks directly connected to other stations, and can also be used independently. Administrative moduleAM AM- a hardware module of the 5ESS switching system, which provides general control of the entire station. The AM module controls the CM module and communicates with all SM modules (via CM) The AM module monitors itself and the CM module for faults. Service personnel are notified of detected problems. AM - performs the functions of resource allocation and call processing, which are implemented most efficiently on a centralized basis, namely: 1) Routing of inter-module and intra-module calls 2) Processing of administrative data 3) Traffic measurement reports 4) Managementmemory System maintenance. 5) Maintenancefile records of changes in the system's current Version of the Software. 6) Distributiontrunk lines for call handling.
