Abdulkhamid Sulaimon ogli Chulpon was one of the creators of the new Uzbek poetry. He translated U.M. Gorki’s novel “Mother”, A.S. Pushkin’s “Dubrovski”, “Boris Godunov” and Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and also translated many other works from different languages into Uzbek.
Abdulla Kadiri had done great services to the country and the development of translation. Abdulla Kadiri had already learnt the Arabic, Russian, Persian, Turkish, Tatar, and Azarbaidjanian languages. Abdulla Kadiri highly appreciated learning foreign languages. He translated the outstanding Russian writer Chekhov’s story “Khamelion” into Uzbek. Translating Chekhov’s stories Abdulla Kadiri expressed his opinion on Chekhov’s talent and paid great tribute to the services of Chekhov rendered to the development of Russian literature.
Abdulla Kadiri participated in compiling Russian-Uzbek dictionary. Abdulla Kadiri’s translations introduced the well-known Eastern and European famous scientists, poets and writers such as Amir Temur, Ibn Sino, Farabi, Ulughbek, Babur, Sadi, Navoi, Yagol, Chekhov, Dante, Servantes and others to his people.
Abdulla Kadiri’s translations gave much for the development of translation theory in Uzbekistan. He paid much attention to the adequate equivalence in translation. He writes that it is impossible to embrace all the cases of semantic differences between two languages.
Gaybulla Salamov was the founder of translation theory and translation school in Uzbekistan.
G. Salamov devoted his life to the foundation of translation history in Uzbekistan. In his books he enlightened the place of Uzbek translators in the development of world translation theory. G. Salomov gave the crucial analysis of the translation of «Boburnoma» by foreign translators in his book «Babur - traveller».
Translation science continued to develop in the XX century too. The translations of artistic works became our cultural treasure. They played an important role in the development of cultural relations of Uzbek and Russian people. Especially, in this century Russian translators translated A. Navoi’s works. For example S. Lipkin translated «Sabbai Sayyor» and it was published in 1948.
In 1940-1950 Vem’s novels «Fifteen years aged Captain», «The Captain Grant’s children», epos of Fransua Roble «Gargantuan and Pantegruel» and other works were translated. Some of French books were translated into Uzbek in I960. Davron, S. Muhammadjonov, Nurbek, T. Rustamov, E. Mirobidov, F. Alieva (translators) translated «Black tulip» by A. Dumas, «Up and down» by J. Vem and others. In 1970 J. Vern’s «The 80 000 km. under water», J. Rony Starshi’s «Destiny of ancestors» were translated by S. Karomatov and H. Ergashev.
