Annotation: This article shows the directions of occupations in the field of physical culture and sports for persons of middle and older age groups.
Key words: sports, health improvement, occupation, elderly people, method, classification, result.
When organizing recreational activities with any categories of citizens, and older people are no exception, their motivation must be taken into account. The most attractive form of classes, the means and methods used, depend on motivation.
According to their needs and desires, people use exercises for different purposes. Thus, several areas of study were formed. Below are the main ones that actually exist in the field of physical culture and sports of people of middle and older age groups.
1) Athletic: Veteran sport is much more popular in the world than it might seem. There is its own international and Russian federation, (world) games, sports days and competitions in a lot of sports are held. Tens of thousands of Russian citizens are involved in this movement. There is another category of senior citizens who should be classified as “athletes”. Even if such a practicing veteran does not set as his goal victory or records in any particular sport, then he quite in accordance with his desires wants and, according to his physical and temporal capabilities, can train with an eye to achieving the maximum possible results in the field of development, for example , muscle strength, "body building", endurance, flexibility and coordination abilities, all-round development of basic physical qualities, etc. He does this only because he likes the very process of achieving physical perfection and the associated opportunity to periodically participate in a variety of competitions.
2) Conditioning: the task set by the adherents of this direction is to improve physical condition, for example: normalization of body weight and composition, "pulling up" (increasing tone) muscles, changing body proportions, improving strength indicators, endurance, flexibility, acquisition some motor skills (for example, from the field of martial arts, dancing), etc. As a rule, these are the main motives for training young people (18-30 years old). However, among veterans there are many people for whom the main point of training is to achieve good physical condition, which means a good "youthful" appearance, a sufficiently high level of development of the fundamentals of physical qualities and, most importantly, their balance.
3) Wellness: it is obvious that despite the popularity of the first two directions, the overwhelming number of engaged citizens of older age groups are not very interested, for example, in building muscle mass, improving their strength capabilities, prospects for participating in the New York Marathon, etc., but they clearly understand that the main wealth of life is health and they expect from exercise, first of all, visible signs of its improvement, a clear appearance of shifts in their physical state towards better health, less fatigue, greater mobility and activity. As has been noted many times, wellness training provides the richest opportunities for this.
4) Rehabilitation: the overwhelming majority of those who would like to start leading a more active lifestyle are going to do this for one simple reason: the appearance of the feeling that the body is "aging before the soul", as well as the fact of the constant appearance of all new chronic diseases and deviations in health that “interfere with life” and do not respond well to treatment or correction by traditional medical methods. Thus, classes with the aim of getting rid of the "bouquet" of chronic diseases and the associated sharp deterioration in the quality of life may well be classified as rehabilitation. Despite the fact that traditionally the term "physical (motor) rehabilitation" refers to the case of physical or social rehabilitation of disabled people or when physical therapy (exercise therapy) is used to treat certain diseases.
5) Recreational: a fairly large proportion of people train for the sake of "good mood", for the sake of entertainment, active recreation, the opportunity to communicate in an informal setting with friends or family, distraction from the stress of the working day or week. They are not attracted by training "to the seventh sweat." Their desire is “to relax in a good company” (even if it is himself, beloved), passively, but with health benefits, to relax, or to have fun, dance, etc. Work with this category should be based on this leading motive.
6) Hygienic: these are various forms of physical activity and training included in the framework of everyday life (morning exercises, walks, physical exercises during the day, not associated with significant loads). Its main function is operational optimization of the current functional state of the body within the framework of everyday life and extended rest.
