Uzbekistan has one of the brightest and original cultures of the Orient. The territory that has come to be known as Uzbekistan has always been at the crossroads of the civilizations of Central Asia and the Middle East. The first inhabitants of Uzbekistan were said to be the Indo-Iranians, who came to the region in 10 century . These people developed irrigation of the rivers of the area and eventually, their settlements grew into the cities now known as some of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world: Bukhara, formerly known as Bukhoro, Samarkand, or Samarqand, and the capital of modern Uzbekistan,Tashkent,we can know this formerly name is Chosh. The culture of Uzbekistan has a wide mix of ethnic groups and cultures, with the Uzbeks being the majority group. In 1995, roughly 71% of Uzbek population was Uzbek. The chief minority groups were Russians (8.4%), Tajiks (officially 5%, but believed to be much higher), Kazaks (4.1%), Tatars (2.4%), and Karakalpaks (2.1%), and other minority groups include Armenians . It is said however that the number of non-indigenous people living in Uzbekistan is decreasing as Russians and other minority groups slowly leave and Uzbeks come back from other parts of the former Soviet Union.
The territory of modern southern Uzbekistan has been lived by people for a long time. The ancient province existed here already in the VIII century BC. The Great Silk Road connecting Europe and Asia contributed to the formation of large cities of that time – Samarkand, Khiva, Bukhara. These centers are still the pearls of Central Asia, giving a complete picture of the culture and art of Uzbekistan.
Customs and traditions of the Uzbek people have been forming for centuries. They are very distinctive, impressive and different, Over centuries, traditions and customs of Uzbek people remained almost unchanged despite the desire of many solders to believe foreign culture on.And The Arabs had the greatest influence on Uzbek customs and traditions, through the expansion of Islam throughout Central Asia. Islam traditions were closely intertwined with pre-Islamic beliefs and traditions, local culture, and firmly settled in the mode and minds of the Uzbek people.
