Yorkshire, in the north-east of England, is fuU of history and culture.

The Bronte sisters
Two of the m ost p o p u lar national parks in England are in Yorkshire. 
N a tio n a l P a rk s a re p la c e s th a t a re s p e c ia lly p r o te c te d b y the 
governm ent because they are of scientific interest o r because they 
have a great natural beauty. Dry stone walls - walls that are m ade of 
stones w ith o u t u sin g an y su b stan ce to keep them to g eth er - are 
typical of the Yorkshire Dales, ^ while the M oors

are m uch wilder. 
There are m any pretty villages; the m ost fam ous is H aw orth, on the 
Yorkshire Moors, w here the three Bronte sisters lived for m ost of their
