Innovative mechanisms of international standards for food
industry in Uzbekistan 
 
Uzbekistan‘s agriculture is highly water dependent. The production of livestock 
products and many livestock products (with the exception of Karakul sheep breeding in the 
desert) is mainly limited to irrigated land. All cotton was grown under irrigation, and in the 
1970s, grain production was mainly transferred to irrigated land. In recent years, the 
proportion of drought has declined, and today it is less than 20% of the cultivated area. The 
rapid population growth over the years has prompted a steady expansion of irrigated land. 
New development ages of innovation technologies countries need to be actively 
involved in the development of international food trade standards if they want to take 
advantage of global trade and keep up with the inevitable technological changes, according 
to a publication released jointly today by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and 
the World Trade Organization (WTO)

. So state major development projects are designated 
even in agriculture sphere. In this case new integration of Uzbekistan in open market 
economy in global scale it is obligatory from our specialization into indicated sector will be 
long term cooperation with world organizations like World Bank, Food and Agriculture 
Organizations and Central Asian Desert Initiative. Uzbekistan and FAO are working 
together to strengthen the country‘s legal framework for the development and promotion of 
sustainable agro-food quality assurance systems in Uzbekistan

Jointly implemented by FAO, Michael Succow Foundation for the Protection of 
Nature, the University of Greifswald and national partner institutions, the Central Asian 
Desert Initiative (CADI) rests on long-term government commitment to conservation and 
sustainable use of Central Asia‘s cold winter deserts. Recently, FAO has stepped up its 
efforts to promote the conservation Agriculture (CA) in the Central Asian subregion, protect 
fragile ecosystems and provide more sustainable production systems. Funded by the FAO-
Turkey Partnership Program, project for the conservation of agriculture successfully 
expanded and promoted sustainable culture practical training in Uzbekistan, as well as in 
Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. 
Agriculture is an important sector of Uzbekistan‘s economy, accounting for 
approximately 17.6 percent of GDP and employing about 26 percent of the labor force.
Cotton and grain are the country‘s principal crops. Exports of agricultural products 
contributed approximately 13.6 percent to Uzbekistan‘s external earnings in 2016. (table) 
In this table it is indicated investment projects by financial source. World Bank 
Group is dominant at the field of agriculture in Uzbekistan. Each of the sub-loans has also 
financed business activities that affect a larger pool of horticultural producers and farmers 
by providing improved access to services and facilities (cold storage, processing) or inputs 
such as seedlings (through greenhouse nurseries). The role of international standards ISO 
22000 and ISO 9001 in enhancing competitiveness and stimulating the export of products.
