Prospective implementation of foreign experiences on Global G.A.P quality standard
in Uzbekistan
Over the past 20 years, global consumption of fruits and vegetables has been growing
in an average of 5-7% per year. Uzbekistan is not only meets the needs of its population, but
also exports agricultural products and has great potential in this area.
The soil and climatic conditions of Uzbekistan are favorable for the production of a
wide range of vegetable and melon crops, significantly superior to similar products from
other countries in quality, content of such important trace elements as sugar, fructose,
ascorbic acid and a number of other biologically valuable substances that provide balanced
nutrition. Along with the excellent taste parameters, agricultural products produced in
Uzbekistan are distinguished by low cost. At the same time, Uzbekistan has a serious
additional potential to reduce the relative cost by increasing yields in all major fruit and
vegetable crops.
The transport infrastructure is dynamically developing, at the same time work is
underway to provide interconnected logistics networks, foreign trade relations are being
expanded, ensuring the growth of the export potential of the sector.
The development of the agricultural sector is not only ensuring food security, but also
the formation around it of new sectors, the creation of new jobs that will increase the
standard of living of the people.
ASEANGAP consists of four modules covering:
- food safety;
- environmental management;
- worker health, safety and welfare;
- produce quality.
Three major aspects are evaluated under SALM (Malaysia) namely:
- environmental setting of farms;
- verification of farm practices;
- safety of farm products.
The JGAP (Japan) scheme is divided into four chapters:
- food safety, critical control points on fertilizers, seed, and produce;
- environmental considerations water, soil, energy, neighboring sites;
- workers' welfare and safety including minimum wage and training;
- sales management including record keeping and traceability.
The key problem of the export of fruits and vegetables at the present time is its non-
diversification (limited by a narrow list of importing countries and an ingrained structure).
This situation carries a number of challenges. Firstly, the deterioration of the economic
situation and the decrease in demand for fruits and vegetables in the main importing
countries can cause serious problems for the entire industry. Secondly, the monopson power
of importing countries can lead to the creation of a situation where buyers-importers are
able to dictate prices for Uzbek products.
Gross agricultural output is a generalized indicator of the volume of production
produced by the entities engaged in agricultural activities, and which is the value of the
volumes of crop and livestock production in the reporting period.
