The relevance of this work is determined by the need to further study the features of the functioning of fictional languages within the genre of dystopia.
The object of this study is the text of a classic dystopian novel, J. Orwell's work "1984".
The subject of the research is the fictional language "Newspeak", incorporated into the novel "1984".
The purpose of this work is to identify the role and functions, as well as the lexical features of fictional languages in dystopian novels.
To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set :

  identify the main areas of functioning of fictional
  

languages;

  identify the main functions and role of fictional languages in dystopian novels ;
  
• 
  to study the relationship between the artistic tasks solved in the works and the specifics of the fictional languages used in them;
  
• 
  explore the relationship between the socio-cultural and socio -political setting in the work and the linguistic means used to implement it;
  
• 
  to systematize the lexical features of the fictional language in the novel by J. Orwell "1984".
  

The theoretical basis of the study was the research devoted to the functions of fictional languages by M.V. Oks , V.V. Skvortsova; works on the classification of fictional languages M.Yu. Sidorova, O.N. Shuvalova; according to the theory of dystopia by K. Mannheim and G. Morson ; studies on foreign literary criticism R. Biya, S.M. Bernardo; works on the study of the role of fictional languages T.D. Clareson , J. Widman and others.
actual material The fictional language "Newspeak" in the context of J. Orwell's dystopian novel "1984" was used for the study.
The methodological base of the study is represented by the following methods: methods of contextual analysis, qualitative and quantitative analysis, syntactic-stylistic and semantic analysis. The choice of specific methods is determined by the specific tasks of each chapter and the originality of the fictional language of the selected work.
