A type of cohesion in which one word substitutes for another. In I’m going

Sounds, such as pitch and sentence stress, occurring in units larger than
the individual phoneme.
synchronic:
Studying a language in its current form. A synchronic study of English
would focus on Contemporary English: English as it is spoken and written
in the early twenty-first century.

A relationship between words that are equivalent in meaning.
temporal deixis:
A type of deixis that locates something temporally relative to the speaker. For
instance, in the sentence We should leave tomorrow, the adverb tomorrow locates
the act of leaving in the future relative to the time this sentence was uttered.
tense vowel:
Vowels, such as /i/ and /u/, that can occur in either an open or closed sylla-
ble. Compare with lax vowel.

A point in time marked by an inflection on the verb. In English, a time in
