INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES OF TEACHING VOCABULARY IN THE SECOND LANGUAGE CLASSROOM

Abstract: this article analyses the vocabulary of a language and vocabulary teaching methods and techniques and studies some methods, such as, Using demonstrations and showing pictures, teaching words in the context, reading the word and etc. It discusses that vocabulary is needed for expressing meaning and in using the receptive (listening and reading) and the productive (speaking and writing) skills. Article also studies that setting a good context is an essential prerequisite for vocabulary teaching as it helps in both engaging the attention of the learners and naturally generating the target vocabulary.

Abstract: this article analyses the vocabulary, teaching vocabulary methods and techniques, such as using mnemonics and mnemonic techniques: link method, method of loci, peg system, keyword strategy, phonetic system, acronyms, acrostics and songs, stories, rhymes to help secondary pupils improve their vocabulary proficiency. Mnemonics are instructional or learning tactics that are especially designed to improve memory. The mnemonic techniques are one of the most effective mnemonic tactics. The mnemonic approach is a valuable mnemonic aid that can assist pupils expand their vocabulary through speaking and, eventually, reading and writing. The mnemonics is an efficient strategy to create a meaningful visual image on which to remember the meaning of a new word.
