Innovative Energy Generation

Uzbekistan and Japan have been implementing a project on the introduction of efficient up-to-date gas turbines in the Fergana TPS and in the municipal boiler RK-3.

The project has been envisaged by the recently signed Protocol of Intent between the Government of Uzbekistan and Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). It is aimed at strengthening cooperation in modernization of thermal power plants and combined heat and power stations.

"Pre-project activities are currently in progress. We have already selected a supplier of the major equipment. The Japanese company Kawasaki Heavy Industries will supply modern and effective gas turbine power plants,” the press service of the Ministry of Economy reported.

The model project is expected to increase the energy efficiency of the Fergana TPS and RK-3 boiler through the introduction of a co-generation gas turbine plant that ensures heat and power generation by modern energy efficient technologies.

NEDO has been supporting the second joint project. For instance, together with Japan's Tohoku Electric Power, NEDO provided technical assistance in the commissioning of a unique object - a modern gas turbine cogeneration power plant with a capacity of 27 MW at the Tashkent Thermal Power Station.

NEDO invested $38 million of grant funds in its implementation. The commissioning of an additional power generating capacity in the Tashkent TPS has allowed savings of 39.42 million cubic meters of natural gas per year in the power system, as well as reduction of harmful emissions. Annual power generation has exceeded 227.9 million kW/h.
