How did I learn English?
My name Mansur. I live in Tashkent and Uzbek is my native language. I am a mathematician, but
I like learning English too. I learned English very well and now I want to share my experience
with other people.
I had my first contact with English when I was six. My dad inspired me to listen to The Beatles. I
listened to them every day for the next seven years. In the beginning I could understand nothing
of what they were singing. But soon I started to understand every word, especially the ones which
appeared in the titles. So The Beatles were my first motivation. Today, I can understand The
Beatles very clearly. When I was 13 years old, I started reading science fiction books. I read in
Uzbek. The books were all American. I could not read the original versions because I did not know
English so well. Somehow I felt that in English the books will be even more interesting and reading
will be more exciting. I finally decided that I wanted to read books in English. I learned every new
English word that I met. I found that reading is much more exciting in English.
Now I study
mathematics. Most of the books in my math institute’s library are in English. I discovered that my
knowledge of English is very important for my learning mathematics.

Can you think of other activities in which one season may be better than
another?
There are many sports and other sort of activities, which require certain
kind of weather and
season. Some activities are suggested to play in summer in which the weather is sunny and
warm. For example,
swimming in rivers, making and eating ice creams, having picnics and
camping
are played in summer, undoubtedly. This is because; doing above-mentioned activities
in winter
can be called just silliness, for sure. In addition to this, there are also some sports and
other pastime activities which
can only be done in winter, mostly with snow. This can be
perfectly exemplified by the fact that skiing,
ice skating, making snowman can only be done
using snow, which is present in winter. Also playing kites, drawing,
playing football volleyball
and basketball are played mostly in Autumn and Spring, showing that these seasons also have
their importance.
In conclusion, I believe that doing some activities are better under certain
weather conditions
than others, which again confirms that season plays a crucial role in doing them.
