In contemporary world, biodiversity among wild animals are declining and being a problem on a global scale. The significant number of animals are on the edge of extinction as well as most of them are in existence on the endangered list. In my opinion, this happens mainly due to poaching and other human activities, however we have still time to mitigate and tackle this issue.
There are some reasons which contribute to illegal hunting. In the past animals was killed mainly for surviving and for food but now, hunting for making money is a common issue. Due to the fact that some animals have commercial value and endangered animal products are used in traditional medicines or the fashion industry, hunters exploit them. For instance, there are many poachers in African countries and excessive poaching is being a huge problem there. Tigers are now on the threshold of extinction owing to the fact that their skin is used widely for making mattresses and blankets and this leads to indiscriminate killing. Furthermore, loss of habitat because of illegal logging or deforestation and human habitation are common causes of disappearance of species diversity. Now, demands on agricultural products are increasing day by day as the world’s population grows, there is need for more agricultural land, this puts burden to farmers. In order to work out a problem, we should start taking steps as soon as possible.
Some protective measures, however, should be taken to improve the situation. First of all, governments should introduce new laws and wage an aggressive campaign to eliminate poaching nationwide. They impose higher taxes to hunters for damaging indigenous wildlife. Similarly, they ought to rise people’s awareness on this issue by demonstrating on mass and social media in which people are more active. This is because people have a responsibility to protect the species on this planet and they should comprehend that loss of species can disrupt the balance of the ecosystem. Another solution is that introducing better farming techniques and methods to avert felling trees for agricultural activities. Such as, crop rotation means land is used more effectively. According to statistics, an estimated 18 million acres of forest are destroyed each year, this also illustrates a lack of habitat for million species so government ought to ensure reforestation that have been affected. Those are the ways some endangered species can be protected from extinction.
In conclusion, although habitat loss and poaching pose major threats to wild animals, people can alter the world a better place by finding right solutions such as imposing strict laws and efficient use of farmlands
