How often is the advice of parents accepted by children?
I really think that children listen to their parents a lot in China. You know, people are quite conservative, and children are educated to obey their parents and teachers. Children don't want to disappoint or upset their folks (= parents). Even if they might disagree, they will eventually follow their parents' advice. That's the way it works here. When I was at university, quite a few ofmy classmates told me they were studying computer engineering (or something else) because their parents had chosen this major for them.
