Report.
I decided to watch ‘’Mind your language’’ for mid course exam so I started watching it a few days ago. It is a comedian film that was made in United Kingdom in ITV in 1997. This film was produced by London Weekend Television of the production company and by Stuart Allen (season1-3), Albert Mosses (season4). It runs 25minutes. The name of the basic actor is Mr. Jeremy Brown (Barry Evans) and he played as an english teacher who is manipulated to teach a group of enrolled foreigners. The show is based on an adult education college in London and focuses on the class in English which the film includes 42 actors who immigrants come from different countries: India, France, China, Japanese…
BARRY EVANS as Jeremy Brown is as the English teacher and very important point of most series. He is a friendly and patient, earnest single man living alone in about thirties. He has a Bachelor of Arts from Oxford University. He was hired to teach foreign immigrants from English lessons which he was warned that the students made their former teacher extremely annoyed. Mr. Brown faces big problems among the students but then he cannot do anything to improve with his students’ creative interpretations of the language.
I am going to write down one of the scenes in the film that cultural action interested me. But we face like these events unconsciously and do not pay attention them. If we look at these problems sometimes they may seem funny and make us upset really. The names of these episodes are Ranjeet Singh, Surrinder. According to their religion the Sikh, Ranjeet has to marry Surrinder who is the daughter of the friend of his father when he is at twenty years old. But he does not want to marry her, because she looks like an elephant and also she weigh so much. He prefers to kill himself instead to get married her. So his teacher Mr. Brown gave some advices to sort out that problem but they misunderstood him. They understood that he wants to marry Surrinder himself not Ranjeet. As a result, Mr. Brown had to write a letter her parents that was explained that event was an unexpected and misunderstanding situation and also he has no intention of marrying anyone. Then Ranjeet said that her father was coming in front of him to slice into many pieces. It means that the father was going to punish. Then Mr. Brown pointed out that there the big differences between in their religious and cultural backgrounds. Moreover it is ridiculous. This is not Punjob. It is England, a civilized country. Their conversation is not finished her father came into the class….
In conclusion, this sitcom shows that lots of funny and dangerous traditions among different cultures in several countries. I realize that these traditions against cultures causes a host of complex problems and makes our life more difficult.
