Do you think people have enough time o ff work?

N ot at all.  I think th e opposite is th e case.  R esearch  has shown th at 

m ost people are w orking longer and  longer hours than ever before. 

T here  is huge pressure on  em ployees to perform ,  so com petitive  is 

the w orkplace  today,  and this forces them   to som etim es even forego 

th eir holidays in o rd e r to get things done  at work.  I  think people in 

general deserve m ore tim e off work, both to spend with th eir fam i­

lies and to  allow them  to have the tim e to relax and unwind. 

W orkplace stress is a big problem  that leads to many, many forms of 

illness, some of which are very serious. W e need to look after our health 

more, and the only way to do that is to be allowed to take m ore time 

off work. If I were in governm ent, I would shorten the working week. 

Not only would that create extra jobs, it would benefit all the employ­

ees who are overworked and overstressed and badly in need of a break.
