among clinical outcomes (p<0.001), although some reviews are neutral 
or strongly oppose the hypothesis. Retrospective studies demonstrated 
that among 212 hospitalized COVID19 patients, 96% of those with mild 
COVID-19 had normal vitamin D levels (above 30 ng/ml, p=0.007) as 
opposed to over 50% of the patients with severe or critical COVID-19 
were vitamin D deficient (below 20 ng/ml, p<0.001). Furthermore, some 
sources found that vitamin D status not only predicted severity of disease 
but also predicted infection.
Conclusion. 
Vitamin D deficiency is a potential risk factor for poor 
prognosis in patiens with COVID19 disease. Even though review results 
are inconclusive, vitamin D is important immune system modulator that 
enhances resistance to infections. In order to get more credible results 
whether vitamin D deficiency is a risk factor for more severe forms of 
COVID19, further research should certainly be conducted. In addition, 
vitamin D supplementation should be considered in prophylaxis, or in 
developed COVID19. The guidelines D recommend a target 25(OH)D 
concentration of 30 ng/mL, and age-, body weight-, disease-status, and 
ethnicity dependent vitamin D doses ranging between 400 and 2000 IU/
day.
