OUR INSTITUTE
The Tashkent Railway Transport Institute is one of the oldest higher educational institutions in our country. Its activities were closely connected with the development of railway transport. The institute was founded in 1931 as the Tashkent Engineering School. About 5000 students study at the Institute. The Institute has four faculties—the Railway Construction Faculty, the Operation of Transportation Process and Transport Logistics Faculty, the Railway Economics Faculty, the Mechanical Faculty.
The four faculties train engineers in 24 specialties. Every year about 1000 students graduate from the Institute. The course of study at the Institute lasts four years. The study of theoretical subjects is followed by practical training at workshops, depots, locomotive build­ing works, on construction sites, etc. The first- and second-year students study such gen­eral subjects as higher mathematics, physics, chemistry, descriptive geometry, drawing, a foreign language, the his­tory of the Republic Uzbekistan and other subjects. The study of special subjects begins third year. Each academic year has two terms. At the end of each term the students take examinations. Those who pass all the exams and get good marks are given grants. The Institute is headed by the Rector. At the head of each faculty is the Dean. There are about 30 departments at the Institute with more than 800 teachers. About 10 per cent of them are professors and Doctors of Sciences.

UZBEK RAILWAY
Joint-stock company «O'zbekiston temir yo'llari» was formed on November 7, 1994 on the basis of the former Central Asian railroad located in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The total developed length of the main roads of the company makes about 3645 kilometers today. More than 54, 7 thousand people work in the company. Annual goods turnover of the company makes about 90% of total goods turnover of all means of transport. In the near future, residents and guests of Uzbekistan will be offered a decent alternative to air transport and highways on their way to the pearl of Central Asia – the Fergana Valley. A project on the construction a railway line to link Angren and Pop with a unique tunnel has entered its final stage. Experts believe that the new steel line will have a positive impact on the further development of the economic capacity of three most populated regions of Uzbekistan, allow increasing the volume of passenger and freight traffic by several times, and significantly reduce travel time along with completion of building a single railway network and opening up interesting opportunities in transit.
The railway industry has presented a kind of a gift on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence by completing the construction and electrification of the 104 km Angren-Pop railway line. They have built 285 artificial and water structures, six overpasses, 13 railway bridges with a total length of 2.1 km, four stations, four junctions and two railway depots. First high-speed electricity train Talgo 250, named Afrosiyob, arrived in Uzbekistan on 22 July 2011. The train was constructed by PATENTES TALGO S.L. (Spain) within the implementation of the project on organization high-speed passenger communication between Tashkent and Samarkand. On 5 January 2010, the Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On measures on implementation of the project “Purchase of two high-speed passenger electricity power Talgo-230 (Spain)”. The project is financed due to own resources of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari state joint-stock railway company and resources of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan. The second train will be delivered in September 2011.
