2.Materials and methods




  1. 2.1. Application algorithm




  1. In this research, an application algorithm which can be integrated to structural design analysis studies for




  1. applicable agricultural machinery and equipment such as tillage tools was developed and a case study on strength-




  1. based design analysis of a Para-Plow tool was conducted. The algorithm was constructed based on experimental




  1. field tests, CAD and CAE techniques. The core application sequence of the developed algorithm is shown




  1. in Figure 1.

The Para-Plow is a deep tillage tool whose fundamental design specification was prototyped in the UK by

a group of agronomists, soil scientists and engineers (







Krause et al. 1984; Harrison 1988; Friday 2008;




  1. Crook 2014). The most specific design feature of the tool is its tines with inclination up to 45°. The purpose of the




  1. Para-Plow is to loosen compacted soil layers at depths of 300 to 400 mm and maintain high surface residue levels.




  1. Para-Plowing should be effective at loosening soils that become compacted under the moist conditions of irrigation




  1. and thereby improve soil conditions for crop growth (Ewen 2015). The main structural elements of the tool are




  1. made from structural steel-based materials. Additionally, heat treatment is applied to the tine tips (plowshare).

  1. In the case study detailed in this paper, a Para-Plow tool with two tines which was manufactured by a company in




  1. Turkey was considered and specifically focused on a structural design analysis of the tool in order to understand




  1. the stress distribution on the tool elements and the total deformation behaviour under predefined test conditions.
