SECTION XI– TRANSPORTATION
SOUTH BOUND BROOK SCHOOL DISTRICT
Title: Transportation
Purpose:
The Board of Education recognizes that although our students walk to both Robert Morris School and Bound Brook High School, there is a need to transport out-of-district placements, as well as our students attending Somerset County Vo-Tech. In addition, we arrange transportation for field trips.
Procedure:
Start of School Year

At the earliest possible available date, the Child Study Team must provide the Business Administrator with a list of all projected out-of-district placement for the following school year. Included must be the Student Name, Address, Date of Birth, Phone Number, Parent’s Name, Parents’ Cell Phone Number, Emergency Contact’s Name and Phone Number, any special accommodations (i.e. wheelchair, aide, etc.), Name and Address of School Attending, Hours of School Operation, Contact name and phone number for placement school.

In July, the Business Administrator must work in conjunction with Somerset County Vo-Tech to ascertain the number of students attending the school for the following school year. Included must be the Student Name, Address, Date of Birth, Phone Number, Parents’ Name, Parents’ Cell Phone Number, Emergency Contact’s Name and Phone Number, and whether they are full-time or shared-time. If shared-time, the Business Office would need to know whether they will be attending Vo-Tech in the morning or afternoon.

In July, the Business Administrator must work in conjunction with either Somerset or Middlesex County Educational Services Commission to arrange the necessary busing. In addition, for students attending BBHS/Vo-Tech shared time, busing arrangements must be made with Bound Brook.
New Students

The Child Study Team must notify the Business Administrator in writing when a student is beginning a new out-of-district placement. The following information must be included: Student Name, Address, Date of Birth, Phone Number, Parent’s Name, Parents’ Cell Phone Number, Emergency Contact’s Name and Phone Number, Any

special accommodations (i.e. wheelchair, aide, etc.), Name and Address of School Attending, Hours of School Operation, Contact name and phone number for placement school. In addition, an effective date is required.
Students Leaving District

The Child Study Team must notify the Business Administrator in writing when a student is leaving an out-of-district placement for any reason. This information must include the as-of date for the placement change.
Field Trip/Athletic Buses

Requests for buses for field trips and athletic events shall be submitted to the School Principal at the earliest possible date and after event approval by the Board of Education. The School Office will schedule all special activity buses.

As a district which does not have to transport its own students, the South Bound Brook School District is not responsible for Non Public transportation costs. Aid- in-Lieu transportation costs will be paid to the parent and / or guardian of Charter School Students..

The annual District Report of Transported Resident Students will be completed by the Business Office and submitted within the state set timeframe.
Safety
Bus Accidents

In the event of a bus accident, the driver shall notify police via cell phone and request that they notify the party with which they have a contract (Transportation Supervisor at ESC).

The driver shall contact the ESC and/or agencies that can assist in promptly providing for the safety and welfare of the passengers.

The driver shall NOT leave the students unattended under any circumstances.

The Transportation Supervisor shall notify the Business Administrator, Building Principal and School Nurse of the accident.

The Transportation Supervisor shall proceed to the scene of the accident as soon as possible.

The Transportation Supervisor shall verify the accident with police, keep a written record of each accident, and report all accidents to the state.
