CONCLUSION
We have to remark that the way Austen complains about women’s situation had to be fulfilled anonymously although her books tend to be fashionable. This may be due to the fact that she was reporting real situations and people, especially women, could identify their situation with that of the novel. What can give us an idea about the restrictions a liberal society applied. Male and female characters seem to be destabilized by the other’s presence and try to camouflage their fears. The author is inviting us all to recognize this fear and to act consequently. What corresponds then is a movement from the “other’s behaviour” to our own and personal contribution and being. In conclusion, the novels "Clarissa" by S. Richardson and "Pride and Prejudice" by D. Austin are two of the most important works of 18th and 19th-century British literature, known for their exploration of the drama and triumph of love. Despite their differences in style and tone, both novels share a common interest in exploring the complexities of courtship and the challenges faced by women in a patriarchal society."Clarissa" is a novel that delves deeply into the psychology of love and the consequences of social pressure on the individual. The epistolary format allows for a nuanced exploration of the characters' inner thoughts and motivations, making it a powerful and moving work of literature.
"Pride and Prejudice" is a novel that combines humor, social commentary, and memorable characters to explore the themes of love, marriage, and social status. It is a timeless work that continues to captivate readers with its sharp observations of human behavior and its celebration of the triumph of true love over societal expectations.Together, these novels offer a unique perspective on the challenges faced by women in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the ways in which love can both inspire and threaten the established order. They continue to inspire new generations of readers and writers, and their legacy is a testament to the enduring power of great literature.
