и потому они видели в Александре исключительно военачальника, 
приказы которого надо было выполнять беспрекословно.
Благодаря комплексу вышеизложенных причин агрианские пе-
хотинцы, представители зависимого от Македонии пограничного 
царства, были выделены из общей массы воинов северобалканского 
происхождения. Высокая дисциплина агриан, их прочная связь с ма-
кедонской монархией в совокупности с широкими тактическими 
возможностями и мобильностью, свойственными для всех балкан-
ских пельтастов, позволила воинам этого подразделения занять осо-
бое место в войске Александра, став «варварской гвардией» велико-
го завоевателя.

AGRIANIANS FROM ALEXANDER THE GREAT’S ARMY 
THE ELITE CORPS FROM MACEDONIAN FRONTIER 
The infantry from Agrianian tribe was one of the most famous 
light troops in Alexander the Great’s army. In equipment and tactics 
Agrianians had no difference from other northern Balkan peltasts, but 
was not the same as barbarians in Macedonian army. They had a spe-
cial place in major battles, and in period of local military operations. 
The reasons of their place are connection with Macedonian monarchy 
and high discipline.
