1. Document of CEFR for Languages: learning,
teaching assessment» and descriptors of it
The document of «Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching. The CEFR document is the result of a need for a common international framework for language learning facilitated cooperation among educational institutions in different countries. It was demanded to create a single and integrated educational space in Modern languages teaching/learning and international standards of language assessment in European countries. The main function of this document was to provide a common basis for the elaboration of language syllabuses, curricula, guidelines, examination, and coursebooks across Europe. It also provided a method of assessing and teaching which was applied to all Modem languages in Europe. Under the CEFR learning language proposes during a whole life as dynamic progression through all levels. That’s why the aim o f the CEFR is to designate standards to be reached to subsequent stages of teaching and learning Modern languages. This document has been accepted as a standard framework to be implemented also in many other countries, i.e. in every language teaching and learning context. The CEFR has been translated into at least 37 languages. The implication of this Framework in different countries is reflected in the development of National Curricula or State Educational Standards of FL. The CEFR document enhances the transparency of courses, syllabuses and qualifications, thus promoting international cooperation in the field of Modem languages which requires mutualrecognition of qualifications gained in different learning contexts and aids to 1promote students’ mobility.
According to the CEFR, learners of every LT context should be facilitated to gain the particular proficiency level in a particular stage of learning. In the CEFR the cultural context is observed in the language setting. Cultural context proposes taking into consideration the specificity o f national condition of teaching and learning Modem languages, and the national-cultural features of the adjoinedlanguages (learned and native languages). Learning Modern languages through a whole life proposes six.Breakthrough Acquiring each stage successively learners have real opportunity to communicate with people of other language contexts. TrackTest English Test uses the popular CEFR standard (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) for evaluation. The six reference English levels are widely accepted as the global standard for grading an individual’s language proficiency. CEFR English levels are used by all modern English language books and English language schools. It is recommended to use CEFR levels in job resumes (curriculum vitae, CV, Europass CV) and other English level references. We list here the CEFR descriptors for language proficiency level with the approximate equivalent to other global English evaluation schemes- Cambridge ESOL, Canadian Language Benchmarks / Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CLB/CELPIP), Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL), BULATS, IELTS and TOEFL.
English language levels description: English Basic User (A1, A2), A1 (Beginner), A2 (Elementary English), English Independent User (B1, B2), B1 (Intermediate English), B2 (Upper-Intermediate English), Proficient English User (C1, C2), C1 (Advanced English), C2 (Proficiency English). A levels- English Basic User : English test A1 (Beginner) English level test A1Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce themselves and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where someone lives, people they know and things they have. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. Start the English beginner test A1. English test A2 (Elementary English) English level test A2Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need. Start the elementary English test A2. B levels- English Independent User : English test B1 (Intermediate English) - b1_level_englishCan understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. Start the intermediate English test B1. English test B2 (Upper-Intermediate) - b2_level_englishCan understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with users of the target language quite possible without imposing strain on either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. Start the upper-intermediate English test B2. C levels- Proficient English User - English test C1 (Advanced English) - c1 level english can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices. English test C2 (Proficiency). They Can understand virtually all types of texts. Can summarise information from different oral and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation.
