Laboratory classes are held separately for each academic group in classrooms equipped with the necessary equipment. Classes are conducted using active and interactive methods, “Case study” technology is used, situational issues are determined by the teacher.

When working in the laboratory, students first learn how to determine the authenticity and quantity of reactions and methods in the presence of small amounts of toxic substances, then separate them from the object using the appropriate method, clean from foreign substances and use their own methods of inspection. In carrying out this work, each student should develop a clear plan of analysis. Based on the results of the toxicological chemistry analysis conducted at the end of each semester, each student is required to draw up and defend an act of examination (act).

Practical lesson topics

Practical skills

7-semester

1

Introduction to forensic toxicology. Objects and laboratory equipment. Requirements to them.

Understand and explain the probability of poisoning in terms of substances that can cause poisoning, severe pathological changes, as well as cases of poisoning, toxicology and toxicological chemistry Learn to distinguish objects and prepare for analysis.

2

The concept of material evidence. Preliminary examination of physical evidence: pH-environment, color, odor and preliminary examination of the object for certain substances (acids, alkalis, nitrites and nitrates, cyanides, white arsenic).

Complete and incomplete forensic chemical analysis on the basis of physical evidence consisting of biological objects, the ability to determine the cause of poisoning in cases of acute poisoning.

3

Extraction of toxic substances from the object using water vapor. Test the first distillate for cyanic acid.

They will be able to correctly perform the procedure for the separation of volatile toxins in biological substances using water vapor.

4

Analysis of formaldehyde, acetone, acetic acid and phenol from volatile substances in the distillate.

They will have an idea of the symptoms of poisoning with volatile toxins such as formaldehyde, acetone, acetic acid and phenol. They learn how to identify them from the composition of biological objects.

5

Examination of the second distillate for chloroform, chloral hydrate, quaternary carbons and their differentiation.

Gain an understanding of cases of poisoning with chlorine-containing alkyl halides. When they come together, they use methods to differentiate them from each other.

6

Chemical analysis of methyl, ethyl, amyl alcohols from distillate.

They study the signs of alcohol poisoning. They study the analysis of alcohols extracted from an object using chemical reactions.

7

Getting acquainted with the operation of gas-liquid chromatographs. Determination of the quality and quantity of alcohols in blood and urine by gas-liquid chromatography.

Get acquainted with the operation of gas-liquid chromatographs. They will have practical skills in the analysis of ethyl alcohol from blood by gas-liquid chromatography. Students learn to analyze with their own hands in the forensic chemistry examination laboratory using the GLC method.

8

Wet mineralization of the object in the presence of sulfuric and nitric acids. Denitration of mineralization and preparation for analysis.

They get an idea of the effects of metal poisons on the body and the symptoms of poisoning. They study the process of separating metals by burning an object.

9

Determination of barium and lead cations after separation of sediment from mineralization.

Learn the methods of analysis by masking the interfering ions in the mineralization. Have the ability to determine the content of sediment and filtrate.

10

Determination of manganese, chromium, copper and silver cations from mineralization.

They master the conditions for the determination of manganese, chromium, copper and silver cations from pure solutions and unknown content by qualitative reactions.

11

Determination of zinc, antimony, thallium and cadmium cations from mineralization. Identify an unknown object.

As a forensic chemist, they conduct research by analyzing the composition of an object contaminated with an unknown substance.

12

Determination of arsenic cation from mineralization. Destruction of the liver and kidneys. Determination of quality and quantity of mercury from destructat.

They study specific analysis methods for the determination of arsenic cation in mineralization. They master the procedure of destruction.

13

Analysis of Forensic Biochemistry Objects Learn to take a sample for analysis

Gain an understanding of forensic biochemistry. Learn to prepare forensic biochemistry objects for analysis and take samples from them for analysis.

14

Forensic chemistry examination. Forensic chemists, their functions, ethics and deontology. Writing and defense of the act of examination.

In case of acute poisoning, they will be able to use modern rapid analysis methods to identify the causes of poisoning and provide emergency medical care, and to find the right solution to problematic situations. Acquires specialized knowledge to prepare the necessary documents, learns to know and use the processes of toxicological chemistry examination
